Who Has More Jobs: Grover or Prince Tuesday?
The hardest workers on PBS Kids are a prince and a blue monster. Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood’s Prince Tuesday and Sesame Street’s Grover seem to occupy any and every part-time position on the beloved children’s television series. But who has more jobs?
As of this writing there are 113 episodes of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. In the 5 seasons of the show Prince Tuesday has worked as a babysitter, grocery store cashier, lifeguard, safety crossing guard and waiter,. This gives Tuesday five jobs, not counting his duties as a prince, student (first high school, now college), baseball player or comic book artist.
Grover has had way more than five jobs. But he also has appeared in more episodes, way more episodes. The fuzzy blue monster has been on Sesame Street since season 1. Since we’re counting every episode of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood as part of Tuesday’s work percentage, we should do the same for Grover.
As of this writing there are 4,591 episodes of Sesame Street. In the last 52 years, Grover has worked as an actor, archaeologist, artist, astronaut, baker, barista, bellhop, bus driver, camp counselor, Christmas tree salesman, clerk, concession monster, chauffeur, chef, circus performer, conductor, construction worker, dancer, diplomat, doctor, daredevil, detective, dog walker, doorman, elevator operator, emcee, falafel vendor, fanner, farmer, fast food worker, fireman, flight attendant, furniture deliveryman, game show host, grocer, health instructor, hibachi chef, home renovator, hot dog vendor, ice cream vendor, king, laundromat attendant, librarian, lifeguard, lemonade vendor, lumberjack, magician, mail carrier, marshal, messenger, meteorologist, mountain climber, news anchor, pianist, piano mover, paleontologist, photographer, pilot, plumber, police officer, prime monster (minister), prince, professor, projectionist, repair monster, reporter, royal footman, royal foot finder, safari tour guide, safety monitor, salesman, scientist, secret agent, security representative, stage manager, standup comedian, street cleaner, street musician, studio director, taxi driver, teacher, town crier, travel agent, usher, veterinary assistant, waiter and window washer. Grover has had 87 jobs.
I am counting chef and hibachi chef as two separate jobs. There’s a level of entertainment required from a hibachi chef not present in other kitchen jobs. Emcee and game show host could also be argued as the same job but David Letterman could not do what Alex Trebek did and vice versa. Professor and teacher are two separate jobs because professors typically instruct people in higher education and there’s a big difference between a pre-school class and a graduate level course. Also Grover’s multiple vendor jobs also count separately. Selling hot dogs is quite different than selling lemonade.
I am not counting superhero as a job because Grover is Supergrover about as often as Prince Tuesday is a baseball player. It’s not a job per se, but more of an identity. I am not including student for the same reason. I’m also not including world traveler as a job for Grover since it’s not really a job, more of a hobby. I am not including painter as a job since Grover paints for personal joy, not money. Same for Prince Tuesday as a comic book artist.
Grover has had more jobs, obviously. But Prince Tuesday has had more jobs per episode.
As of this writing, Prince Tuesday has a new job every 22.6 episodes.
As of this writing, Grover has a new job every 52.8 episodes.
It is seemingly impossible for Prince Tuesday to ever have as many jobs as Grover.
It is seemingly impossible for Grover to ever have more jobs per episode as Prince Tuesday.
Both Grover and Prince Tuesday have had more and fewer jobs.
