Slipknot is releasing a new album. Here are the wrestling masks they should adopt.

Slipknot announced a new album is coming later this year, The End, So Far. A new Slipknot album means new masks for the 9 members of Slipknot*.

One of the dudes in Slipknot, #4 (guitarist Jim Room) has been wearing a Phantom of the Opera style mask since their last album, 2019’s We Are Not Your Kind

See?

It looks a hell of a lot like The Undertaker’s mask from 1995 to 1996, used by the wrestler after Mark Calaway suffered a real life injury. The Phantom of the Opera style mask was fine but the era wasn’t one of Taker’s best so it’s not exactly beloved.

Anyway, a Slipknot dude is now using an Undertaker (in my mind). Good for him! Maybe the entire band should have pro wrestling related masks!

Here are 8 more pro wrestling masks that would work well for Slipknot.

The Fiend

This is a no brainer. In 2020 Slipknot singer Corey Taylor said he wanted to swap masks with Bray Wyatt. Just do it.

Psycho Clown

The wrestling mask most in line with Slipknot. Just make this Clown’s mask. Did you not know one of the members of Slipknot is named Clown? #6 is Clown.

Suicide

The Impact wrestler gimmick would work well for most any member of Slipknot, just make the mask dirty. Rub some dirt on it and it fits.

La Parka

Another no-brainer, La Parka’s mask is such a classic it seems like it doesn’t belong to a wrestler but pro wrestling as a whole. Also, as illustrated below, La Parka is also a musician.

Sting

We never got Undertaker vs. Sting. But we can make #7, guitarist Mick Thompson, wear Sting’s mask so we can get the Slipknot version of Taker vs. Sting.

Giant Machine

My favorite lesser known masks are the Giant masks utilized by WWF wrestlers in the late 80s in New Japan Pro-Wrestling. The masks are all the same but since Andre was the biggest wrestler, both figuratively and literally, we’re going with Giant Machine over Hulk MachineAnimal MachineCrusher Machine and, obviously the best Machine, Piper Machine

The mask incorporates everything good about a classic luchador mask but with covered eyes and mouth and always in black, it fits Slipknot’s style.

The Great Muta

Any Great Muta mask works. They’re all fantastic. I like the 1989 WCW debut ‘classic’ mask but even the modern version is great. The modern stuff is more in line with the Slipknot look and feel but the classic looks is more aligned with The Undertaker Phantom look so there’s a solid argument for any Muta.

John Cena

Not a mask John Cena wore, but a latex Halloween mask of John Cena. They exist and would fit quite nicely as a mask evolution for #0, DJ Sid Wilson

* I realize there’s a new Slipknot video and some of the members are already in their new gear and none of it is exactly wrestling themed but who says the tour masks have to be the same as the album masks?
