Beavis and Butt-Head’s Top 10 Videos from this 5 Hour and 11 Minute Supercut

I loved Beavis and Butt-Head. I still love Beavis and Butt-Head. The music video commentary holds up better than anything else in the long running MTV series.

The best way to enjoy Beavis and Butt-Head is YouTube. Due to silly things like music rights, it’s the only place to enjoy the commentary. Thanks to devoted fans (or people trying to make ad money from other people’s work, whatever), I’ve enjoyed many, many hours of intentionally dumb music based comedy. A 5 hour, 11 minute cut is the longest I could find on YouTube, watched it multiple times and ranked the duo’s top 10 videos.

Before we begin, I’d like to point out these guys have really good taste in music. Yes, they gravitate towards the extreme and say horrible things about other people and themselves, but the actual songs they like are great! The songs they rave about stand the test of time.

The list is more than 10 videos since they tend to say an equally good amount of things each time an artist appears, so GWAR and Butthole Surfers each get one spot rather than two.

Also, without these music videos, Beavis and Butt-Head may have had a much worse life*.

Runners Up

L7 “Pretend They’re Dead”

Unfortunately, the only band fronted by a woman. Their misogyny kept them down. Obviously. That’s sort of the point.

Johnny Cash “Delia’s Gone”

They think he’s gangster.

The Cult “Fire Woman”

Fire.

DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince “Girls Ain’t Nothing But Trouble”

They recognize The Fresh Prince from something…

Aerosmith “Livin’ on the Edge”

One of the best exchanges in the supercut:

Butt-Head: These guys are pretty cool for 60.

Beavis: That one guy is 69.

Shaggy “Bombastic”

They like saying the name of the song over and over and over.

10. Motörhead “No Voices in the Sky”

Beavis: How come Lemmy has those two Cocoa Puffs on his cheek?

Butt-Head: Because it looks cool.

9. Slayer “Seasons in the Abyss”

Slayer is playing in the desert. Beavis posits this is where Moses wrote the 10 Condiments.

8. Georgia Satellites “Keep Your Hands to Yourself”

Somewhat of a shocker, they like more than hard rock and rap.

7. Nine Inch Nails “Head Like a Hole”

Not at all a shocker, they like a man screaming and being tortured in music video.

6. Butthole Surfers “Dust Devil” and “Who Was In My Room Last Night?”

Both dudes enjoy most everything from the Butthole Surfers. Butt-Head has the best line during “Dust Devil,” “These guys got their name from me.”

5. Rollins Band “Liar”

They like when it gets loud, which everyone does.

4. Wax “California”

Beavis is too impressed by fire he can’t utter anything besides, “Ohhhhhhhh…”

3. Nirvana “Heart Shaped Box”

These guys loved, loved, loved Nirvana, which makes little to no sense due to their love of everything Nirvana was against, but nevertheless, they could not get enough of the most important, progressive rock trio of 90s.

2. GWAR “Jack The World” and “Saddam A Go-Go”

Beavis makes it clear GWAR is one of his favorite bands during “Jack The World” when he says, “You have to sit and watch TV for hours and hours and then this comes on and it’s all worth it.” Butt-Head makes it clear musicianship is important when he says, “Throwing blood and urine into the audience isn’t enough, you gotta learn to play something.” The two understand that in order to break through, you need not only good visuals but the ability to communicate with musical prowess.

1. Beastie Boys “Sabotage”

Their favorite by a country mile. Which gives me hope for Beavis and Butt-Head. If the Beastie Boys could evolve from their original incarnation, maybe these two would have grown. Probably not, but it’s a nice thought.

*At the 4:07:43 mark, I realized without music videos, Beavis and Butt-Head might have grown into Prowd Boys. It’s at the start of Dink video for “Green Mind”:

If Beavis and Butt-Head were attempting to watch music videos in 2021, there’s no way they’d be watching music videos. They’d be radicalized QAnon true believers. So, thanks MTV? You maybe delayed our current reality a decade or so.
